Pros

Pay and benefits are good.

Cons

Constantly disappointed in this company. Management is horrendous. They will lie to you, manipulate you, and make you promises they never intended to keep. I have caught management in lies SO many times yet they keep doing it. GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING. Everything. Also, document everything. Forward your emails to your personal email, take pictures, take notes with dates, document everything. They are super shady and will pretend they never said or did something (sometimes illegal things) so document all of it even if it seems silly. The unprofessionalism of many of them is appalling. They are sarcastic, rude, nasty, condescending, disrespectful, and it is so outrageously unprofessional I have no idea how some of them still have jobs. It’s super toxic and it will make you miserable. Definitely don’t ever make any mistakes. This neat thing happens where the people whose job it is to review your work don’t do that (makes you wonder why you even had to do it in the first place if no one is going to look at it) and then months later, when they finally do look at it, and they catch a mistake you’ve been making for months, they hit you with another nasty email as if you were knowingly doing something wrong the whole time. What would be the purpose of that?? How does that benefit me? How are you supposed to do your job when your bosses don’t do theirs. Even when it’s just a small mistake you can expect rude condescending comments instead of “hey I noticed this I think you accidentally forgot or didn’t know you needed to do blah blah just make sure going forward you do this instead”. Also, I hope you like retaliation because som dishes it out on the regular. That was the final straw for me with this company. After I pushed back about something that I was LIED to about I was hit with several blatant retaliations and yes, I have the receipts. Not everyone is comfortable speaking up about these things to management however I have spoken with several other people within the company who have shared these same experiences. It is really unfortunate because this company has a high turnover rate and these are prime examples of why, yet nothing changes. So just so they can’t ever act confused when someone leaves again EVERYONE IS LEAVING BECAUSE YOU TREAT THEM LIKE TRASH. But again, even if you do speak up, prepare yourself for the unprofessional remarks and retaliation. They now forever hate you and everything you say going forward falls on deaf ears. The only people they like are the total pushovers who never speak up. As if all that wasn’t bad enough SOM cares only about money and not their “aweSOMe” “family”. This was particularly obvious during covid. Pretty much everything SOM actually did do was just a big show to cover their behinds in case of a lawsuit if an employee died. Most companies who had the ability to work from home did so at least part time. This included other property management companies so we know it could have easily been done. Meanwhile, SOM was operating as close to business as usual not even allowing us to stop in person touring completely. Except for upper management of course who worked from home the entire time. Even worse SOM opened our offices back up to the public in the middle of the highest covid cases per day the US was hitting. Upper management was still working from home. This was a rude awakening for SOM employees and many of us viewed it as offensive, selfish, and irresponsible. While we understand a businesses purpose is to make money SOM made it loud and clear that their employees are expendable and money is the ONLY priority. Myself along with many others have been disgusted by the actions of this company and it has set the tone for work ethic and employee morale going forward. Another fun way they save money is overworking employees by not hiring new staff for months when someone inevitably quits. This leaves one person to do several jobs. Then that person gets yelled at for getting over time while doing two jobs even though SOM has been saving months worth of a salary by not hiring the new employee. The pay is actually decent but be prepared to check your dignity at the door.

Hello! We’re glad that you love our pay and benefits although it does not sound like we lived up to your other expectations. During COVID, we made necessary operational changes for our onsite teams. We began offering virtual and self-guided tours to future residents and started hosting virtual events for our residents. Our service teams developed and implemented cleaning and disinfecting protocols to keep everyone in our communities safe. We had temperature checks and mask requirements. We're always seeking ways to better our company, so if you would like to discuss your experience further, please reach out to awesome@somliving.com or hr@somliving.com.

Worst Company to ever work for

Pros

Nothing was a pro with this company

Cons

They do not train. They take away bonuses with out proper reason. They have corp come in to your office and in front of residents say that you have no clue what you are doing and when you ask to be trained they say that they do not have the time to train you. Managers bully employees without any form of punishment. If you live on site and you quit by your own terms you are told to move out in 3 days and somehow charged over $1800 in carpet replaced and over $600 in cleaning charges. They have no clue what is happening in their company and losing staff members left and right.
