Thank you very much for the candid feedback, and I am sorry to hear this was the kind of experience you had working for us. As the new Division Leader for Southland in Southern California, I can tell you that the kind of work environment you are describing does not at all align with our Core Values: People, Integrity, Collaboration, Accountability, Safety, Innovation, and Sustainability. Recently we revamped our organizational structure and now have a dedicated Operations Manager who is focused on our Project Engineers to enhance their development by ensuring they are rotating around to different jobs to gain different skill sets. Furthermore, our Ops Manager is accountable for , ensuring our P.E.’s have appropriate mentors assigned to them so they have a sounding board if needed. In addition, we added a new Project Executive Leadership role that is focused on the development of the Senior Project Managers and the oversight of a book of projects to ensure Client satisfaction. These Project Executives report into the Director of Operations who oversees the entire Operations of our business to ensure there is the right balance of manpower, common processes, and development paths for our people.
With a focus on our new rallying cry ”Teamwork Makes The Dream Work”, we are focused on the many ways our teams can measure success along the way on a project, as well as defining milestone victories. By defining clear individual goals, roles, and responsibilities on projects, coupled with overall team milestones for success, we are encouraging an atmosphere of collaboration. We have even developed a peer-to-peer employee recognition program called TMTDW (Teamwork Makes the Dreamwork) ballot online where anyone in the organization can recognize another employee for going above and beyond. We also have monthly BBQs where we recognize these folks, and rotate who hosts the BBQs by department to allow everyone an opportunity to serve lunch with gratitude to the rest of the organization. Our newly deployed Employee Focus Committee is run by our employees and focuses on ways for our people to have fun at work with activities like our run club, fishing trips, tri-athlons, an upcoming motocross outing, and camping trip next spring.
Our compensation manager benchmarks our salaries against similar positions to make sure we’re paying our team fairly. We get salary information directly from the colleges where we hire our interns and new college graduates to make sure our pay is competitive, because we want to hire the best of the best; people who live our values.
I am truly sorry you had this experience, and I invite you to please reach out to me personally if you would like to discuss further what we have done to continue to make Southland an amazing place to grow your career.
Payman Farrokhyar, Division Leader
