Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with Southland on Glassdoor. We take such allegations very seriously, investigating them and taking appropriate disciplinary action related to any discriminatory conduct.
The behavior you described does not align with our vision of an inclusive work environment. We place a high priority on creating an atmosphere where every individual, regardless of gender, feels respected and supported in their professional journey. Southland, and many of our employees, actively participate in initiatives aimed at increasing the representation and advancement of women in the construction industry. In addition to industry-focused initiatives, we are also proud of our inter-company initiatives focused on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) and, specifically, Southland women.
Employees have access to training content for professional and technical development regardless of gender. A significant portion of our training is self-initiated and self-paced for the employee to discuss with their manager in development planning. The approach fits well with a culture where we value personal responsibility and initiative for learning and development in supporting performance and advancement. We take a very similar approach to industry events encouraging discussion and collaboration with management.
Based on what you describe, your experience is not reflective of our culture and opportunities presented to all employees. However, no organization is perfect in the culture they continuously aspire to achieve. I encourage you to reach out to me to further discuss your concerns, so that we may take corrective actions as needed. -- posted on behalf of Lisa Starr, CHRO, Southland Industries
