Pros

We put up a really good front at appearing inclusive and compassionate in the company culture. Looks can be very deceiving.

Cons

At Southwest Behavioral and Health Services, we say we’re here to “enhance lives,” but it’s mostly about enhancing how much money can be made off of people’s suffering. We’re in the business of mental health and our internal chaos provides the perfect cocktail to degrade yours! Mass layoffs included staff who gave their careers, minds, and souls to SBH. Severance? No. Gratitude? Briefly alluded to in a two-minute layoff en masse over Teams. Not once, but twice. We pride ourselves on investing in crucial initiatives like dysfunctional payroll systems and internal “staff appreciation” platforms where you can post a gif and a few emojis to thank your DCP’s for giving all of their emotional energy into deescalating irate members. All while telling staff, “We care about our employees and the community we serve”. We show this care and compassion by abandoning fixture employees approaching retirement at a moments notice. What You’ll Do For SBH • Support caseloads with mandatory clinical oversights that include supervisors who read you inspirational quotes they Google searched for an hour straight • Keep smiling while “People’s Experience” drops another vague memo that says nothing but uses 7 fonts in 5 different colors • Try to access the payroll portal without having a breakdown • Attend weekly “productivity plan” meetings when what they really mean is “We already made the decision without telling you the moment we initiated this plan, but thanks for boosting our revenue for 90 days!” What We’re Looking For • Background in mental health, social work, and ethical whiplash • Ability to endure systemic dysfunction while radiating calm professionalism • Willingness to pretend leadership’s $15K-per-meeting payroll fiasco or six figure salaries the c-suite continues to cushion is not a factor in the financial straits the company is in. Perks • A front-row seat to the demise of a mental health fixture in our community • Creative problem-solving opportunities (mostly related to problems created by six figure decision makers) • A workplace culture that values transparency, but not with you Apply Now! At SBH, we don’t just offer you a job…we offer you an experience. One you’ll be unpacking with your $150 copay therapist for years to come (or at least until they cancel your health insurance upon being laid off).

Pros

Southwest Behavioral & Health Services has been more than just a workplace for me—it's been a place of growth, purpose, and genuine collaboration. Over the past 8 years, I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside some of the most passionate, mission-driven professionals in the behavioral health field. The organization's commitment to community wellness and culturally responsive care is unwavering. Leadership consistently supports innovation, professional development, and staff well-being. I’ve been encouraged to bring ideas forward, and I've seen many of them come to life with the right support and structure. The benefits package is strong, the PTO is generous, and the flexibility around work-life balance is deeply appreciated. Most importantly, I’ve witnessed firsthand the positive impact our services have on the individuals and families we serve across Arizona.

Cons

As with any nonprofit healthcare organization, there are challenges with resources and navigating funding constraints.
