Pros

The extremely high expectations will make every future place of work seem much easier. I found myself having to drop habits I learned that aren't of any real benefit and just make things more burdensome. Education opportunities are the only real positive.

Cons

The administration and corporate infrastructure is extremely bloated. People in management positions who are ineffective and not at all financially productive get big bonuses and high pay for things that don't lead to sustainable growth or employee retention. The people doing the actual work are progressively getting less pay and bonuses every year. You don't get raises or promotions for just doing a good job and advancing your skill, but rather for sucking up to the right people and getting new contracts even if you're losing contracts in the same market at the same time. Most markets are constantly understaffed and because of this clinicians are frequently asked to travel. I was only paid $75 a weekend for call but you're really on call 6AM-6PM every weekday and can really be called in 24/7. I regularly worked 50-60 hours a week and was frequently tied to my phone or computer all day and night even when I wasn't in the OR. If you have a day out of the OR be prepared to complete administrative busy work, be called in or asked to travel, etc even if you had 15+ hour work days every other day of the week. Everyone in a clinical role seems to be unhappy and over worked all the time. They use an unnecessarily cumbersome, antiquated patient database which looks like a 2002 website and is maintained and updated by people who don't really have contact with the people using the database (nor do they seem to be good at coding). Don't expect any real support from the top even in a Clinical Manager role. You are expendable to the company. It is all about the money to them. They have a great training program but trainees started at $40,000 a year even in areas where median rent for a 2 bedroom apartment is $1500-2000 /mo. Trainee pay increases as they complete the training program successfully but remains low after completing the program. After completing the training program your salary is still ~$10,000 less than the low end of the average CNIM salary when I started in the industry in 2008. If you ask an administrator they would say everything is fair and standardized but the longer I worked for SC the more I noticed this isn't true. Two people with the same title, productivity, skill level and time employed at the company could have $50k-100k difference in salaries and the lower paid employee could have a much higher workload. It's very much an environment of favoritism. There is also a burdensome non compete that the company will make you sign if they can that is essentially meant to punish you into staying with the company and even where NCNDAs aren't legal they will put clauses into hospital contracts saying hospitals can't directly hire you.
