Pros
Location: If you are a local to the area and don't want to explore a career in the casino industry, it's a wonderful option. Environment: Casual, approachable environment. Employee engagement: Events, on-site options for markets, trucks vendors.
Cons
Work environment: Top down culture. Dismissive, old school leadership with little flexibility around becoming a true destination employer. Long inflexible hours, extremely understaffed and the current staff is not skilled nor qualified for the roles the currently occupy. Vacation and benefits are laughable, no match to 401K, and no real work from home options. The HR department is reactive and inaccessible to discuss the true issues within the organization, obtuse actually. Clearly comfortable with status quo, which I am not accustom to coming from a progressive and creative organization. It's been quite a disappointing place to work. Turnover: I have never seen such high turnover rates in staff. Spencer's doesn't invest in training nor orientation yet hold staff to unrealistic expectations due to overall limitations.
