Suffers from big company beaurocracy, but makes up for it - Engineer-In-Training Stantec Employee Review

Pros

I feel fairly compensated (pay and benefits) without having to ask for it. Company is proactive about retaining employees. Large-scale engineering projects outside of the reach of smaller firms are available here. So many possible career paths, perfect for someone who wants to "shop around." Very flexible for those looking to work remotely part- or full-time. Management gives employees freedom to carve their own career paths.

Cons

Lots of red tape if you have to go to senior management for anything. Can feel isolating and impersonal when working in teams scattered across the continent and beyond. Very scattershot in terms of mentoring and support, depends on how lucky you get with the quality of local leadership and office culture. Broader company culture feels very off-the-shelf, top-down, predictably corporate America, but with lots of exceptions at the local level. Can emphasize safety and DEI to the point of being overbearing, making all but the most safety-minded and DEI-sympathetic people annoyed at times.

Pros

Diverse, big projects with a whole team of engineers and interior designers.

Cons

Upward mobility is very limited in a large pool of labor; office culture could be timid and rigid.
