Pros

Cookies in the cafeteria, that’s it.

Cons

Here you go: Let me establish some credibility by saying the following: I was a top performer for my entire tenure (which was several years) , never had an HR issue (didn’t even know contacts down there), and I left on my own terms. I just want you to know this isn’t from someone who sucked at their job. I’m now in a MUCH HIGHER position and very happy. My sincere advice to you: Work ANYWHERE else but here. Want to know why? Here you go.. Now here are the REAL facts: * Company is still shady as anything. The way they “communicate” with customers to close deals, manipulate data is very unethical. Without getting into too much detail, let’s just say there’s a reason their stock is at a 2 year low. (Although that also attributes to poor execution and planning on other aspects) * Next, there is NO and I mean NO team member development. I know several team members who were forced into sales positions without a choice. You will not be assigned a team based on your sales strengths but rather where they just need to fill head count. *you may be thinking, “well I got the team I want, so who cares?” Let’s say you want to grow into a management or somewhere else, there is NO SPECIFIC TEAM member development plan. All you can do is hit your quota, be helpful to others and prey you get a “promotion.” That’s it. Zero and I mean zero sort of a documented development plan to help you get to the next level. * You may be saying to yourself, what what about Team Leads, won’t they have management development plans because of their status? Hahaha, WHAT A JOKE. I was a TL during my tenure (and I only got it by smashing my quota out of the water for years) but you don’t actually develop as a leader whatsoever! No matter how many times you ask “What can I do to improve, what specifically do I need to adjust to get to the next level?” You’ll get a bunch of fluff and no substance. The TLs don’t even have specific duties outside of regular reps because nobody knows exactly what the he$l! they’re supposed to do!! *Not enough? Are you saying.” Meh, I don’t care about growing, I just want a job to make money and never advance.” That’s fine, and completely respectable. However, in this current state, “YOUR COMMISSION WILL BE GARBAGE.” The company has now (wasn’t always like this) endorsed archaic methodologies of 80 dials/day to hit your “target.” You really think that’s an efficient way to sell?” Hmm * And let’s say you’re willing to do that, your commission will be peanuts more than your regular base salary that you take home every 2 weeks. I knew people who couldn’t pay simple bills because of how horrid the plan was. You may be asking yourself, “Well why on earth did you stay so long?” The answer: commission was much better back in the day. Poor planning, awful execution, cluelessness and budget cuts led to poor commission. If you’re unfortunate enough to be selling on the shred it side, you’ll literally feel like an order taker and a telemarketer. There’s no intelligent strategic selling. You literally cold call and try to sell shredding. That’s it. Don’t think for a second you’ll learn strategic account management practices, because you won’t. If you want a bogus, telemarketing cold calling “job” that is meant for high school grads with little to no chance to grow with a shady company, then go for it. I can go on and on, but hopefully you’ve gotten my point. Please, do yourself a favor and run as far away from this place. It’ll be the best decision of your career.

Pros

I worked alongside a team that was consistently supportive and always willing to make time to answer questions, which made a meaningful difference in my day-to-day experience. There was a real sense of collaboration, and having people who were approachable and dependable made it much easier to navigate a fast-paced, high-volume sales environment. It helped create a bit of stability and camaraderie even during more demanding or repetitive parts of the role. Overall, it was a company operating as a leader in the space, which added to the scale and pace of the experience

Cons

This was my experience working at Shred-it, which is a subsidiary of Stericycle. If you’ve ever wondered what zero autonomy feels like, this is your spot. The day was a nonstop loop of cold calls, cold walk-ins, and more cold calls, with a mandatory “smile and dial” every morning. On the Shred-it team selling waste bins, it often felt like creativity and independent thinking were… safely shredded. Management could be extremely hands-on to the point of micromanagement, with frequent check-ins and scripted role-play scenarios that rarely reflected real conversations in the field. Communication style could come across as condescending or patronizing at times, especially on team calls, which made for an uncomfortable environment when feedback felt more critical than constructive.
