Pros

Market average pay rate for the position. Decent opportunities for either standard workweeks or overtime depending on what you're looking for. Nice office in downtown Chicago with all the benefits working in West Loop brings. Many remote work and travel opportunities, depending on your position. Decent benefits choices. If you know the right people, you could end up with many possibilities for advancement. The new executive team is a step in the right direction.

Cons

Managerial dishonesty and lack of integrity here is huge. I have personally watched senior managers at the VP and Director level physically and verbally intimidate their direct reports. I have watched some senior leaders at the Director and VP level intimidate and try to coerce female employees into situations that made me, a bystander, feel uncomfortable. HR knows about this misconduct, but it is swept under the rug as many higher ups in that department are unwilling to take action against their personal friends. Not every manager was like this, but the bad ones vastly overshadowed the small group of people determined to do the right things and make positive changes. This company severely lacks transparency. Reorganization of many departments has happened this year and the way they were handled left a very sour taste in my mouth as I watched many coworkers and friends worry about their future with the company. You will never, ever feel your position is safe at this company if you work at the professional salaried level. Any dissension or deviation from what the company's latest initiatives could be a terminal offense. Ideas are not welcome here and you must follow the party line if you'd like to keep your job. This company believes their managers should have "leadership" skills above all else. Your manager will not have a clue about the intricacies or even the broadest overview of your daily work tasks; many of the projects I worked on felt like I was trying to get water from a stone because my superiors agreed to take on things that were seemingly impossible. As many other reviewers have said, the recent positive reviews seem fake but I have no way to prove that.

Pros

I worked alongside a team that was consistently supportive and always willing to make time to answer questions, which made a meaningful difference in my day-to-day experience. There was a real sense of collaboration, and having people who were approachable and dependable made it much easier to navigate a fast-paced, high-volume sales environment. It helped create a bit of stability and camaraderie even during more demanding or repetitive parts of the role. Overall, it was a company operating as a leader in the space, which added to the scale and pace of the experience

Cons

This was my experience working at Shred-it, which is a subsidiary of Stericycle. If you’ve ever wondered what zero autonomy feels like, this is your spot. The day was a nonstop loop of cold calls, cold walk-ins, and more cold calls, with a mandatory “smile and dial” every morning. On the Shred-it team selling waste bins, it often felt like creativity and independent thinking were… safely shredded. Management could be extremely hands-on to the point of micromanagement, with frequent check-ins and scripted role-play scenarios that rarely reflected real conversations in the field. Communication style could come across as condescending or patronizing at times, especially on team calls, which made for an uncomfortable environment when feedback felt more critical than constructive.
