Pros

There are very few pros about this university. People are disconnected and extremely dissatisfied. I cannot really think of any pro unless you are looking to work for someone here which suits your interest

Cons

Well, this is is a long list. The university is very detached from the community here. Actually there is no community here. People rarely collaborate. The wages for research assistants are very low and school does not care much about the students or the employees.

Meeting new people interested in sports or exercise. Building a network around campus.

Not a job where you can do schoolwork during downtime.

Pros

Depending on the department you are working in, it can be an incredibly supportive and worthwhile work environment.

Cons

Working at the Career Center is potentially the worst department at Stony Brook. The four members of leadership refer to each other as "sisters" and perpetuate a toxic culture where they blame those below them for their poor management skills. Unfortunately, these leadership members are also friends with those above them, so even though there have been multiple complaints from staff, their superiors give them a slap on the wrist and never give them actual consequences for their heinous actions.
