Pros
Location pay is best in NYS
Cons
Expected to play office politics and suck up to management. Favoritism towards certain identity groups. Toxic work culture (expected to be always on, use your own personal devices for work activities). Witnessed many instances of harmful language towards diverse gender identities, unsafe practices with food safety of known allergens that resulted in several colleagues ending up in the emergency room. Supervisors are often given no training when promoted, so they deflect constructive criticism and the things they actually can control to 'no one trained me on how to do this' or pointing blame to secretarial staff for issues that may have occurred. Those who are loyal to management and work to eliminate union members in temporary positions for being active in the union are rewarded with promotions. Campus residences leadership is so toxic, can't keep full staff; turnover numbers continue to increase each year as their toxic reputation spreads. Many instances of staff hooking up with on campus students, so common it is often just swept under the rug. See a staff member who was relocated to work out of central office? Probably means they're on their last leg for something toxic. One of my co-worker's supervisors ended up there after actively working to spread rumors about the direct report to other direct reports. Title IX office is hostile/aggressive; want to report, probably shouldn't do it there because they will make you feel like a problem for even mentioning it. Labor Relations is 100% helpless in your situation. Management often makes promises that will either never happen or be pushed back so far you forgot they even happened. All gender restrooms are a dime a dozen.
