Pros

Pros: Summit has some great teachers and home office staff. Very smart and motivated people work here who really want to make a change. Your experience may be better depending on your immediate role and supervisor.

Cons

Summit is the reason I left education. The leadership would be a great case study example of gaslighting. Leadership here is awful- both arrogant and unethical. If you are in the business of education to make the world a better place you’ll feel horrible about yourself after working as Summit. The system touts great statistics but creates awful school cultures for kids and adults alike. It is especially not a safe place for people of color - staff or students - and although Summit claims to be for ALL students it does not serve low-income students well. The students who succeed here are the students that would do well at any school system and although you’re constantly told that everything leaderships does is ‘for kids’ they just use this an excuse to not loop staff in on decisions that impact them, take feedback and never act on it, and feel better about the poor choices they make which affect real people. Summit leadership loves to believe that they’re ‘different’ and the rules can’t be applied to them but it’s just another way they condescend anyone who has knowledge of education and try to make everything home-grown. Getting anything done here is extremely political and difficult unless you’re a ‘favorite ‘. There are multiple examples of internal promotions never being posted and having a limited interview processes for white men and some white women however positions that are primary POCs go through an exhaustive interview process. Ask the former operations managers. Summit has had a number of layoffs in the last 1-2 year with little notice, including teachers. This place is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Dozens of people have also left with no job and no opportunity just to get away from it. They call it leaving Summit for the ‘abyss’. Don’t subject yourself to working here. The CEO wrote a book recently and as another former employee stated, ‘it is filled with lies and snake oil’.

Pros

Great for retirees or anyone in grad school, a lot of free time.

Cons

Some kids don't listen, and sometimes you have to deal with entitled, reckless drivers.

Pros

Good coworkers and positive relationship with students. Frequent PD weeks during expeditions Constantly given snacks in the staff room

Cons

Toxic work Environment, if you weren't personally liked by admin, or rocked the boat in anyway they would talk bad about you. It was almost as if we were still in high school...as high school teachers. There was a lack of transparency from Admin. There was a lack of proper training, I was asked to do unethical things while on the job, ex) asked to graduate my students anyway when they had not earned the grades to pass or had met the attendance expectations. Faced gender discrimination from a Coworker, creating a hostel work environment for me.
