Pros
There's actually a lot of good to be had at Sunquest. The majority of the people there are very passionate and love what they do. Great way to get into healthcare IT and gain valuable experience in an FDA-regulated company Lots of opportunities to move laterally and try different things/departments Can work with some interesting technologies Lots of technical experience can be had as you will be exposed to a multitude of technologies on many deployment platforms. New building looks nice and has a great view. An onsite cafeteria and gym are there and food trucks are regular visitors. Depending on the role you may have the opportunity to travel to international locations. Fairly flexible schedules and work from home opportunities (Depending on department and/or manager) Casual dress code Benefits are decent. Nothing spectacular, particularly for technology company, but they are solid overall and include an employee stock purchase plan for the parent company, Roper Technologies
Cons
In my experience the biggest con to working at Sunquest is the abysmal levels of staffing across the business. In pretty much every department there is simply not enough employees to do all of the work that is necessary. As a result, burnout and turnover run rampant and there is little being done about it because the answer is more people, which means more expense, and spending money is heavily frowned upon. Upper management dives into major commitments and business models without realizing it requires an investment to actually be successful at. Too many projects are just added on top of existing heavy workloads with the "we just have to make it happen" attitude. As a result most projects are done with the absolute minimum effort and as quickly as possible. Shortcuts are taken everywhere and it really is just a matter of time before it bites the business. Sunquest is a SALES company, NOT a technology company. Sales rules the show, gets the best awards and perks, and the engineering teams have to build and support whatever the sales team sells, no exceptions. If there is revenue attached to it, they will say "yes we can do that" no matter what the long term implications are. Maximum raises are 2-3%/year for individual contributors. Very top heavy. There are more VPs than there are directors. Meaning there is virtually no chance at a promotion if you are already a manager. The roles just don't exist. A lot of promotions at the VP level with title changes. SVP, C, etc., with few promotions happening below.
