Pros
Syracuse University has a great historical legacy, amazing academic programs, and successful athletic programs. The internal community of faculty, students, staff, alumni, etc. is very caring and close knit. The networks that students and professionals develop at the University can be positive, solid, and a long-term resource when nurtured and maintained.
Cons
Changes/departures at the highest leadership levels over the last few years, including at the very top level (chancellor) have resulted in weak, ineffectual, corrupt people being placed in crucial positions which they are not competent enough to fulfill. The current campus environment is so deteriorated, negative and deflated, it is being felt in almost every area of the University. Most especially by the students, a vast majority of whom do not support the current chancellor. There is a massive layoff/gutting of the University taking place that will further weaken an already vulnerable system. The culture has changed for the worst, and significant mismanagement is occurring across the board at the institution. The deeply negative impact being made by the new "leadership" upon SU could be irreparable if a serious course correction is not made soon.
