Pros
Depending on your leader, you MAY be treated the way the company claims it treats its employees. Ultimately…. Targets looks out for itself. Any talk or pretense about doing right by its workforce is hyperbole.
Cons
As someone who worked his way up from ETL store leadership to regional leadership with high level achievement, results, reviews and strong promotional interviewing…. I can tell you first hand (in Michigan) that the higher you climb, the less the company exemplifies the values it grooms you to believe it holds dear. Store, district, group and higher leadership spin everything they can to avoid the establishment of unions. They place a lot of emphasis on store processes, fairness, and equal treatment of employees who are hourly. And you buy it. You feel like their moral compass means something. But it doesn’t. (Shocker… corporate America is B.S.). The truth is, they don’t care about you. When you get to a level of leadership based on your high level performance, results, and extensive interview success… the support and development they claim to value goes by the wayside and they throw you to the wolves. Higher level leadership operate in a haze of superiority, blame, and non-accountability. They lean on each other to validate their incompetence and avoid taking responsibility for their failures. The kool-aid tastes very different when you’re at group level or higher. And it tastes like cluelessness (if that was a flavor).
