Pros
Some pros to working with target at the store level: - The hiring process is rather easy, it's impersonal, but it is easy. -The onboarding experience is informative, and you learn a lot about the company's history, values, and beliefs. -The pay is the most alluring aspect of target. This is one of the better retail hypermarkets to be affiliated with based on the entry-level wage. -I was a GM Closing Expert (since modernization) so I did 1:30-10:00 and 2:00-10:30, and the job just consisted of doing leftover work, replenishing the floor, covering areas as needed, and attending to guests. -A fast-paced environment. With me and what I did and experienced, this is completely the opposite of a desk-job. You are expected to be very hands-on, work quickly and diligently, and be okay with being pulled in multiple directions to run the business as a whole. This basically goes for all positions. It doesn't matter if you're hourly or salary. -Coworkers are generally good people.
Cons
There are many cons to working with target, some I can think of off the top of my head. - During peak, your availability is thrown out the window. If you're hired with a 25 hour availability, they may make you work 35+. If it's a problem, you need to be assertive and bring it up to your leaders. Start with a team lead, then partner with your ETL and HR. Target likes to push and see what they can get away with, but it doesn't have to be that way unless you let it. -It's hard to move up within the company. This definitely depends on the district, mine wasn't like this, but in general, target likes to hire externally versus internally. If you're looking to move up, do an internship, or get a salaried position. Your best bet is to quit, work somewhere else for a little bit, and then reapply. If you're persistent enough, you may get promoted, just stay cognizant of where you want your target career to go. Make sure your leaders also know you want to move up, because they can maybe mentor you. -There's essentially either too few hours to give, or there's no work-life balance the further you move up, especially during peak and hollow seasons. Be aware that they may demand 50+ hours from you if you're salaried, and if you're hourly, you may or may not get the hours you want. As mentioned, if this bothers you, stay on top of it. -The workload can be extremely overwhelming. Target is a business, and over the years, roles have been condensed and the work you're doing is the work that 2 or 3 people have all had to complete in the past. It's very easy to feel inundated and underappreciated no matter the role. -Coworkers can be the bane of your existence. -Target has TLs, ETLs, and the SD. Your managers can either be all hands on deck or hide in their office. I'm putting this as a con because it can be hard to reach different levels if they're busy or not willing to speak with you.
