Pros
Target has great training and onboarding. I learned a lot during my years there in both the distribution center and multiple stores. You are put into a variety of situations that help you grow. It is what you make it. I was able to lead several project in the DC, I was an intern mentor, able to lead some community involvement events, several other specific projects. I had some great leaders who helped guide me in my professional career. I wouldn't take anything back from my time spent at Target. The culture in each store is different. It really depends on the store manager. I still keep in contact with several people from the first store I worked at. Not the last.
Cons
The schedule/hours worked would be the biggest con. No real work/life balance/flexibility. At the distribution center I had multiple different schedules. I worked 4PM-2AM Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday which I loved. I also worked Saturday, Sunday, Monday 6PM-6AM which I didn't like. My schedule would also change if someone was on vacation. One weekend I would work nights and the next morning (6AM-6PM). I didn't like not having a consistent schedule... and working every weekend. You also had to arrive 1.5 hours before the shift to prepare. I lived an hour away which added to why I personally would say the schedule was a con. Other might say the opposite! As a manager you have a crazy schedule in the stores. 7A-5P with 1 consistent day off during the week and rotating every other weekend... so technically you have 2 days off a week. I hardly ever left at 5PM. Normally 6PM which makes for a long week. Working a holiday is just life when you work in retail. Most managers do their best to make the schedule based on requests from all the managers. I moved and wanted to spend more time with my family over the holidays which wasn't really an option in retail. Nothing specific to Target. I would say the Best Team Survey could be a con. I wish Target had a way to review and apply necessary action items from feedback (I know they try). It's a great tool if used correctly. We had teams that gave their leader a great score... solely so the leader would get a promotion and leave their department (because they didn't like them). Some of the DC/store team members don't take their feedback put in the survey as seriously as leadership making action items based on that feedback.
