Pros

There aren’t any pros to working at the Ben Atchley State Veteran’s Home that I can think of.

Cons

The staffing is horrible. We always worked short, when we weren’t short it was bc a “big wig” was coming in and they wanted it to look like it was ran properly. If you call in sick, they will tell you that you have to be in the hospital. They do not care about the physical or mental health of their employees and therefore it is assumed that they do not care about the health of their residents either. They hardly hire new CNAs and It has been hinted at by the administration that they turned potential hires away based on their appearance. You will accrue lots of PTO, but they will rarely let you use it. You will be mandated to work most of the days that you are supposed to be off. The staffing coordinator will text you on every single one of your “days off” asking you to pick up extra shifts. The list of reasons not to work here goes on and on...I would not work here again or recommend it to anyone else.

Pros

Being able to enhance the lives of some of our nation's greatest heroes is a job that I am proud to have. Working alongside some of the best colleagues completes the best type of work family.

Cons

The only con is not being about to do more for our residents.
