Decent company, but many frustrations - A&P Mechanic Textron Aviation Employee Review

Pros

Great benefits, decent pay starting out in industry, pay increases quarterly and yearly

Cons

When I started at Textron, I was fresh out of A&P school. The training here is non-existent for some new hires, but then other new hires get dedicated attention and OJT from the designated "trainer". More people than not have no interest in helping you if you have questions, so you're left on your own to figure out how to use equipment or complete jobs. Access to manuals/documentation is frustrating as there are many locations and computer links you must navigate to find what you need. There is no help guide, so this becomes a infuriating part of the job to play "Where's Waldo?". Out of 70 mechanics, there is no diversity, so it has the feeling of the good ole white boys club. If you don't fit into the club, you will be blatantly treated differently. Small numbers of "minorities" have come and gone, but none have stayed very long. It has been a very frustrating experience with lack of support (from coworkers, leads, and management) on trying to get training, feeling discriminated against, or just any kind of help period. There is no HR onsite, so you have to call some number and speak to some third-party HR rep in India/Pakistan, which becomes difficult when English is not their first language. This place really has a lot of things going for it, but there are so many little things that really make it miserable to work here at times.

Pros

The most chill aviation job I have ever worked at. No regular near weekly audits , no micro management from supervisors. No incompetent tool crib attendant to deal with. All smaller tools like torque wrenches, safety cable guns, mega ohm meters, etc are in a vending machine style tool bin manager. QA is very knowledgeable and extremely fast when placing a call with them for an inspection, or witnessing torque or anything. I've never had to wait more than 10 mins, even when they are short handed a person. As far as the whole parts procurement dept and the parts runners go they seem pretty legit as well. Doesn't matter if I need a hyd pump, a press switch or just a bag of screws. If I don't get the part that day within a few mins to hours, its there the next day.

Cons

The only thing I can really nitpick is that the factory and the service center hangers have A/C. But not where im at ☹️
