Pros

Working under my managers, Melissa and Lance, was a real delight for the time I was there. Both were very understanding of the physical limitations of my disabilities, and never made me feel like I was less than other employees when I needed accommodations. I was even on my way towards becoming a manager myself before I had to leave due to health issues. Pretty much every co-worker was good company, and the regulars who came in were always wonderful to see and talk to. The most rewarding part of the job had to be seeing how excited kids would get about different clothing items and accessories they always helped me and other sales associates to convince the parents to buy.

Cons

The only drawbacks to the job were the less-than-ideal customers. The Children's Place isn't the cheapest retail out there, but it's the biggest brand for school uniforms, and many parents had their two cents to give on the price of these and many other things. There was also the fact that with the Chandler, AZ location specifically, people often bought from other locations, then came to us to return and exchange, only to be upset that our higher tax meant that the price wasn't equal.

Cons

This company exhibits a daily fluctuation in its attitudes and approaches, affecting both employee interactions and customer service. Managers are not protected from customer complaints, and customer service consistently prioritizes customer satisfaction over factual investigations. District managers can be either supportive and understanding or dismissive and unprofessional. Some district managers may even encourage employees to resign due to their negative attitude. I have personally experienced multiple instances where district managers reacted negatively to a simple “no.” This behavior, coupled with the managers’ excessive workload and lack of recognition, has led to employee frustration and breakdowns. While the district manager for Georgia expresses a desire to change the company culture, the current culture remains unchanged, characterized by superficial gestures of “fake smiles” and “fake support.” The company’s practices are exploitative, and employees are constantly reminded of their replaceability and lack of value. This toxic work environment has created a hostile and unpleasant atmosphere.
