Pros

Many of these positive reviews are obviously faked by admin and higher ups based on the fluff answers- specifically the cons. -The pay is slightly better and more negotiable than districts in close proximity. -It’s really easy for much of the staff to slack off and not teach during the day. Data can be faked and weekly outings can be used as “busy work” when you get tired of dealing with students in the classroom.

Cons

-Sexual aggression is ignored and goes relatively unpunished or uncorrected. -There’s a gross lack of support when dealing with difficult students the support staff is afraid to work with. If a student beats the crap out of you and the support staff is afraid to address the behaviors, you should be prepared to continue to get the crap beat out of you until you quit or the student leaves the program. -There are no substitutes. There are many days when rooms are short staffed- usually the rooms that need the most support. -They don’t tell you before you’re hired that you don’t get a lunch break. You’ll be forced to eat while smelling and seeing some pretty aversive smells and sights . -The culture is horrendous. People work there to fulfill their need to take out aggression through physical management. -Conversations only involve gossip and lies, even if you try to change the subject.

Our students come to us with a variety of some of the most critical social-emotional needs present in society. We work fervently to meet their needs and help put them on a pathway to success in life. Many come to us in acute states of crises. It is understandable that behaviors will need to be addressed. It is inherent in our organizational model that we don’t turn away children that need us. We value the feedback provided suggesting management stay engaged with staff and students! Administrators within every school (public, private, etc) tend to have responsibilities that can pull them away from interaction. We look to implement scheduled, daily engagement and that will be addressed in the next administrative meeting. Additional school staff is being hired weekly to meet the growing needs of our organization, including much-needed teaching and substitute teaching staff. As for implicating our staff and students for criminally aggressive behaviors, we do take exception to that. We adhere to the strictest policy in addressing, documenting, and proactively deterring such behaviors among our students and we have a zero-tolerance policy regarding aggressive staff. Finally, we find the reviewer’s statement that our students smell and are unsightly quite concerning as we are disappointed in ourselves for hiring a staff member that would take such a petty jab at special needs students.

Pros

-The main pro is the fulfillment you from working with this diverse and challenging group of children. - The amount of locations give you more variety in where you choose to work

Cons

-at my location the life skills children are taught in a open bay style class rooms. it is often very noisy and hard to get the students to concentrate. Often times one student being overwhelmed has a domino effect on the other students because of the constant noise -I don't feel respected as a professional and often time feel that I am suffering a punishment of others who worked here in the past. we are not allowed breaks or to leave the building for lunch. when I asked for clarity on the matter i was told that it is because staff in the past would leave for break and not return. I don't think its fair to punish everyone for the decisions of a few people. - Administration makes decisions without considering how it affects the staff that is left to execute said decisions. I don't feel respected as a professional and I often times don't feel heard by my admin team until something goes wrong. Our students haven't had a gym class all year due to a scheduling conflict. We communicated this in September, it is March and our students still don't have a gym class.
