Pros

-Competitive pay -School schedule w/ holidays and breaks off & option to work summer if you choose. -10 month check spread over 12 months automatically

Cons

-False promises at interview -Little to no budget for related services so most items are bought by therapists. -Social media posts for sites are not authentic. They post the best classrooms w/ most supports on all sites. Many classrooms are blank walls and students sitting on mats on floor for life skills children. -Not all school are run therapeutically. -Collaboration does not happen often. Roles are "assigned" by degree and may not reflect who is actually specialist on topic. -Mandatory attendance required for all at yearly symposium which requires employees to drive 6+ hours a day on their own time w/ no mileage reimbursement due to school bus transportation being offer or employees may come night before in own vehicle and pay out of pocket for hotel. This puts financial strain on employees and their families. -Employees are required to drive to physical school location to deliver e-learning services in a noisy environment which is not ideal for students in building or student receiving e-learning services but that is the policy. -Raises do not seem to happen -No performance reviews -No continuing education allowance. May requests support and board will decide. -Micromanaging on corporate level (paid salary but clock in and out everyday) -Transportation safety is questionable. One driver, one aide but takes two people to legally put child in restraint if necessary. If fight on bus adults can do very little to protect themselves or other students -Uses Zones off Regulation for SEL but also uses Zones colors for behavior charting. Zones of Regulation is NOT behavior, it is emotions. The fidelity is blurred once behavior and Zones colors mix. -Excessive paperwork. -No caseload caps for therapists

Pros

-The main pro is the fulfillment you from working with this diverse and challenging group of children. - The amount of locations give you more variety in where you choose to work

Cons

-at my location the life skills children are taught in a open bay style class rooms. it is often very noisy and hard to get the students to concentrate. Often times one student being overwhelmed has a domino effect on the other students because of the constant noise -I don't feel respected as a professional and often time feel that I am suffering a punishment of others who worked here in the past. we are not allowed breaks or to leave the building for lunch. when I asked for clarity on the matter i was told that it is because staff in the past would leave for break and not return. I don't think its fair to punish everyone for the decisions of a few people. - Administration makes decisions without considering how it affects the staff that is left to execute said decisions. I don't feel respected as a professional and I often times don't feel heard by my admin team until something goes wrong. Our students haven't had a gym class all year due to a scheduling conflict. We communicated this in September, it is March and our students still don't have a gym class.
