The Now is a capitalist venture and nothing else. Employees are faceless, nameless cattle who are worked to exhaustion so that the now can profit millions of dollars off of the backs of their employees hard labor. The compensation is abysmal and management does not care one ounce about any employees needs or well-being. They are simply there to ensure profit is made at any cost. MT’s are scheduled with no down time between shifts (the openers last appointment ends when the closers first appointment begins). There is barely 5 minutes between appointments to clean and turn over the room. No one has time to properly sanitize the rooms or barely wash their own hands between appointments. Therapists are expected to hold their bathroom needs because there is not enough time to use the restroom. Working at a physical level for hours straight with one 15minute break and one 30 minute lunch break is tiresome and brutal. Most therapists who work at The Now long term end up with injuries. Not because they do anything wrong but because the pace is exhausting and that is when the body is vulnerable for injury. This company is cheap beyond imagination when it comes to employees. To celebrate a one year anniversary employees are gifted a branded baseball hat. Pathetic. Raises are hideously low and barely amount to $1/year worked. Staff used to receive direct bonus for add ons like deep tissue or enhancements and that was taken away. So, now when we work harder we still only receive a base rate of pay. We are constantly emailed with sales reports and revenue information telling us to work harder and get more sales which is comical, because we have absolutely no incentive to push sales when we are compensated terribly and receive no bonuses. Employees are considered full time but are scheduled just under the number of hours that would allow them to receive medical benefits. (This is intentional because they dissuade you from getting medical so they don’t have to pay for it). So to receive medical benefits you would have to work and extra shift and work 4-5 hour over the minimum requirement and essentially be an indentured servant. This is absolutely shameful behavior considering the physical demands of our jobs and how hard we have to work. The only reason therapists work at The Now is because it offers consistent income in a currently challenging job market. And they complain every single day- employees show up for their shifts with grim faces and terrible moods dreading what lies ahead of them. Every. Single. Day. And as you can see from the copy and pasted “response” the now puts after every review is the perfect display of the lack care upper management has for its employees feedback. A curated, corporate response that will lead absolutely nowhere and all feedback will be ignored and forgotten. That is the real translation of their motto: “Heard now and ignored always.” But hey, at least our ceo and founder get to make millions of dollars and fly to fashion week right? Hope one of them gets to buy another vacation home this year while their employees are barely affording to eat or go to the doctor.
