Pros
The best reason to work for Ohio State are the benefits. I was promoted from a student position, so Ohio State paid for me to complete my degree. I'm currently thinking about a graduate level program which one of the reasons that I have stayed with the university. The second big benefit of Ohio State is the benefits. While health insurance has gotten worse and more expensive ever year it is available and is good enough. They are also very supportive of taken time off for family; when my son was born I received a paternal leave of three weeks which did not count against accrued sick or vacation. Exactly how accommodating the environment is largely depends on where you work; the academic side tends to demand more hours (typically closer to the 50+ hour work week) where the business units tend to favor closer to the 40 hour work week.
Cons
The biggest downside is advancement and pay. Since I started as a student every raise I have received has been capped at 10% and I received no raise in compensation for completing my degree. My colleges who have left for other companies have all received very large raises (at least 20k+). It seems the only way to really get a head of the university is to leave for awhile and then come back. While that is nice to have people cycle in that have a different perspective, it doesn't seem fair that loyal employees are punished.
