When this store is great, it's really great! I've worked with a lot of alternative folks with visible tattoos, piercings, various hair colors, and there are many LGBT folks around which is really refreshing. At best you can clock in and do your job and make people smile. The product is great and so are the customers. This business and its management changes frequently which means existing policy enforcement is hit and miss, new policies are written and instilled often, management styles are not cohesive and hard to keep up with, and overall communication is poor between upper management, management, and floor staff. It makes non-management positions difficult to navigate. Incredibly high employee turnover. If you're hired on as a barista you will be paid minimum wage or slightly above, and under that title you will also cashier, perform prep work on ready to eat food, slice/plate pies, package and run food, bus tables, wash dishes, deep clean the shop/kitchen/lobby/bathrooms. The amount of time you spend as an actual barista is disproportionate to the amount of time you spend doing that job. You may work very hard with little opportunity for pay advancement without a title/responsibility change. There is little to no down time, even if the shop is slow. You are expected to constantly be moving, deep cleaning, prepping, which is fair but can be exhausting for the money. Cash tips are slim, and card tips are distributed based on the amount of hours you work.
