Pros
This is a small institute so it's easier to get things done. Most core facilities are underused, you can pretty much walk up to use instruments before reserving instrument time.
Cons
The salary at Scripps increases so slowly while the rent soars. People come and go so quickly it's difficult to have a meaningful relationship with anyone, not to mention segregation into small groups depending on which country they are from. Postdoc career office is always understaffed (or not staffed at all), almost no funding for conference travel (two spots per year is nothing).
