Pros

There basic are no good sides in my experience. It was a complete waste of my time. The people I worked with should be in jail! The institute should lose its federal funding....sounds bad right. Hate to write stuff like this but people need to know be for going!

Cons

My co-workers were sexual harassed. The institute retaliated against me for reporting it. This spiraled into death threats by co-workers to my family. I could not get the institute to do anything to help me!

Pros

Research work can be good based on which lab you join. Only if your PI understands the importance and relevance of breakthrough research, which should be applicable to human diseases to great extent. If you really get a good PI and really good salary then join otherwise find some other.

Cons

Open violation of NIH policy and rules regarding the stipend levels. Even if you perform much better than any other post docs, you will not get any promotion neither you will get the stipend as per the rules of NIH for the stipend levels based on years of experience, even if your track record of awards publications and conference presentations is good and above the other post docs who do not perform and do not have worked out studies. Clear discrimination between Americans and third world country post docs. Shame. NIH should take serious actions against such institutes and principal investigators who are biased and violate the NIH rules.

Pros

The only pro is that it has the name.

Cons

The CEO is a horrible. The same day he was announced as president he was outside the institute showing off his new $200,000 BMW super car despite the institutions terrible financial standing. Grants are hard to get because of the insanely high institutional overhead. In fact most refuse to even give grants to Scripps because f the overhead. The compensation is way bellow average and they keep people in positions they are overqualified for so they don't have to pay them more.
