Pros
I loved my time at Zappos. I was able to grow a lot there and I made some life long friends, I earned an irreplaceable skill set and I truly feel like I grew up there. Zappos was home for me.... right up until the time it wasn't. The perks are outstanding. Killer benefits, flexible schedule, decent pay after some time and the ability to learn and grow and change at your own pace.
Cons
My biggest gripe is that I felt like I was part of a sociology project, forcing the move downtown so that we could be part of this revitalization. like DT Vegas was the end all be all of places to be. Switching us to Holacracy without having any solid training for it, just boom... no managers, have fun! And the problem with that is that people who were good leaders got shoved down, and in their place are these wishy washy whiners!!!! It's not working. It wasn't working when I left and it's not working now. With over 300 people leaving, most of which were pioneers for the company... that's gotta say something. But the uppers are oblivious, so caught up in their own hype that they refuse to admit where the problems are. I miss it there, I miss the way it was and I miss the environment, but what was once fun and a little weird is now some kind of weird experiment. Odd.
