Pros

Free food. That's really it.

Cons

A very toxic environment for a company whose mission is health and wellness. From an HR department that cares little, and I mean both at the recruiter and management level, to management that cares even less. I was bullied more than once despite being a top performer. They promoted unqualified people to management. When I brought up concerns I was either ignored or my ideas were stolen. I actually went to work for a cosmetics distributor for much more money, worked my blank off and was happier despite mandatory overtime. Who prefers that? Someone, who is tired of a toxic culture will prefer anything else.

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your experience at Thrive Market. We're sorry to hear that your time with us did not reflect the kind of environment we strive to create. What you've described — from feeling unsupported by leadership to concerns around how feedback was received — is not the standard we hold ourselves to, and while we cannot speak to the specifics of your tenure, feedback like this has played a meaningful role in how we've grown as an organization. Much has changed since 2018, including significant evolution in our leadership teams, our people practices, and our approach to building a culture rooted in fairness, respect, and genuine development. We're proud that many team members, including those who began in member-facing roles, have grown into new opportunities across the business — and diversity is not just something we acknowledge, it's something we actively work to support and respect at every level. We appreciate you sharing your perspective, as it helps inform our continued efforts to strengthen the overall employee experience. If you'd like to share additional details, please feel free to reach out to us at reviews@thrivemarket.com. Your voice matters, and we remain committed to listening and continuously improving.

Pros

Thrive Market is not for everyone. Teams are lean, visibility is high, and the stakes rarely let up. For me, that is exactly the point. I wanted a place where my work compounds over time, not a place where I could coast. What I did not expect was how much I would actually grow here. The career acceleration has been real, and the impact feels proportional to the effort in a way I have not experienced anywhere else.

Cons

The pressure is constant and the work does not stop. That is not a criticism so much as a reality check for anyone considering it. Headcount is not growing exponentially, which means every person carries more weight than they might elsewhere. Some people will find that energizing. Others will burn out. Know which one you are before you join.

Pros

Thrive has strong, mission-driven teams that genuinely care about outcomes and customers. There is meaningful ownership at the team level and opportunities to drive real business impact across critical domains like checkout, payments, inventory, and pricing. Engineering leaders are often trusted with significant responsibility early, and there is room to build and stabilize systems that directly influence revenue and customer experience. If you enjoy solving complex operational challenges and creating structure in fast-moving environments, there is a lot to work on. There are also strong individual contributors and managers across the organization who are deeply committed to their teams and to improving execution quality.

Cons

Leadership expectations and structural decisions can sometimes feel inconsistent across different parts of the organization. Promotion paths and role definitions may evolve based on shifting strategic priorities, which can create uncertainty around how impact, leadership scope, and future trajectory are evaluated. There can also be a tension between operational excellence and emerging strategic areas, where leaders focused on stabilizing and scaling core business functions may find their work less visible compared to domains perceived as future-facing. Additionally, alignment across leadership layers is not always consistent, which can lead to frustration around ownership, growth paths, and how decisions are communicated or applied.

Hi, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and your thoughtful feedback. We’re encouraged to hear your positive reflections on our mission-driven teams, ownership opportunities, and the impact engineering leaders can have on critical areas of the business. Our goal is to create an environment where teams can do meaningful work and drive real outcomes. Thank you also for your candid comments about leadership alignment and career growth. As we grow as a company, we absolutely need to provide clear structures, transparent expectations, and consistent leadership expectations. The engineering leaders we have recently put in place are all here to drive both operational excellence as well as business and member outcomes in equal measure, and our 2026 Tech Roadmap is all about achieving and maintaining that balance. It’s a fair critique that we can communicating all of this more broadly, and you should expect to see more of that over the next few quarters in monthly rituals for Engineering Health and for Operational Health. Feedback is a gift, so thanks for sharing your thoughts. If you’re open to sharing additional context, we welcome you to reach out to reviews@thrivemarket.com. Best, Thrive Market Engineering Leadership
