Pros

- Working with clothes (fun product) - Opportunity to network and meet a ton of successful great people in your area - The company really focuses on gratitude and goal setting - Forces people to grind - Nice trips to go on and to be rewarded with

Cons

The cons can just simply not be put into a bulleted list. This company sells the “Tom James Opportunity” to recent college graduates. They try to act like if you just make the calls and work from 7am until 6pm you will be successful. However, they force old “used car salesperson” tactics down their employees throats and high amounts of pressure constantly. They tell their salespeople that it does not matter if someone they call on needs a suit just as long as they are rich. Not to mention that most of the good prospects in town have been sought after leaving very few qualified prospects for new salespeople. As far as the product, there were constant delays in orders and fabrics going out of stock after an order was put through. There should not have to be tons of crisis management when selling suits but there is at Tom James. Managers pick at people’s appearance and the company is mainly white people. Their statics of how much a first year sales rep can make is also skewed because half of the people quit after 6 months. For a commission based job I would never recommend this to a friend unless they are willing to have no social life and have rich parents that can support them when trying to build their business.

Tom James Company Response
2y
We realize it takes time, a lot of hard work, grit and determination to build your own business. Our number one goal is building people. People who struggle have the opportunity to participate in retraining programs (company paid), coaching (company/leadership paid), financial assistance programs and other performance improvement plans. A recent review of our President's Club members found that more than 50% had participated in one or more performance improvement programs at one point or another. We would have lost these people otherwise. Our culture is to stick by and support people who want to make it work as long as they are willing to work at it. If there are any situations that you would like to discuss privately in more detail, we are always open to talking—just email careerdivision@tomjames.com. We want you to know that Tom James values your review and considers all comments.
