Pros
My store is a pretty great place to work. Retail can be like working in the ninth level of Dante's Inferno, but my managers and coworkers make it livable. We're all on fairly good terms with each other. As an employee, you get an employee discount of 10%. It's not much, but you get it in addition to any ongoing sale/markdown/price match. We typically are the first to know and be there when new items are out, and management often lets us have one set of leftover items after an in-store event. (i.e., tiny Lego set and poster after a Lego event)
Cons
If you get hired for the season, you are often just thrown in with just enough training to stay afloat, although my team was very good about answering all of my questions. A lot of pressure is put on selling store credit cards, especially if you work a lot on register. 11 credit cards in a week (for the entire store) is considered very low. My managers are usually pretty understanding, but still remind us constantly "Every team member, every customer, every time!"
