Pros

Helping pets Good benefits RSUs and decent pay Lots of pets in office Friendly coworkers

Cons

While at Trupanion I experienced retaliation, gaslighting, and shifting goalposts. loved the actual work but management made it unbearable. It was overall a traumatic experience. Poor management. My Trupanion experience started with missing a portion of benefits orientation because my department was too busy. From there, more issues slowly piled up and it was dismissed or explained away with "we're a family" and "it's only temporary". My manager was often unavailable. Requests for functioning equipment were dismissed for a year. Outdated tools. The tools used for support are outdated or inappropriate, especially for a company of this size. A significant portion of the workday includes making notes and copying that information over to multiple platforms. Staffing. The department was understaffed. After telling management we needed additional help we were told to "prove it" and encouraged to do poor work as proof. This led to disciplinary action and firing of the entire department mere months after receiving a 5 star review from the very same management. When myself and others mentioned this situation to HR they were dismissive and asked no questions.

Pros

Front-line employees are really great. Everyone seems to be aligned with the mission of helping pet-loving pet-parents care for their dogs and cats. PTO is good and typical schedules are very flexible in most departments. Strong DEI guidelines that were enacted many years ago.

Cons

Senior leadership in IT has fallen through the floor in recent years, leading more with intimidation rather than motivation or inspiration, leading to extremely low morale. Just in the first half 2026, there have been about 10 departures from the engineering org. Insurance is fine for employee only, but adding spouse and children gets VERY expensive. Pay is mediocre.
