Pros
Good people, free food that’s about it
Cons
- [ ] TuSimple is a ticking time bomb and you’d be wise to avoid at all costs. The more I learned about the inner workings of the company, the more it made me physically ill working here. Not because the culture was demanding or poor work/life balance but because it became clearer with each passing day that this company was built on a bed of lies. TuSimple is morally and potentially financially bankrupt, devoid of corporate governance and oversight…Think Theranos meets Nikola. It will make for a great TV movie some day. If that wasn’t bad enough the culture is TOXIC. Casual racism and discrimination abound, there are a number of pending and quietly settled claims and it’s easy to see why. All of this stems from mismanagement and corporate malfeasance at the top. Xiaodi (CEO) is drunk with power, emboldened further by his decision to oust the previous ceo in favor of himself. He doesn’t trust or empower anyone, instead choosing to micromanage every aspect of the company and treating people like they are stupid. Xiaodi is brilliant but his span of knowledge is very narrow. he’s never worked anywhere else and struggles to understand how to manage, relate or inspire people. To buy employees loyalty (&silence), he has promoted them multiple times into roles well above their capability or experience. lots of first time managers with zero training or support. There have been so many senior engineers, leaders leaving lately we need turnstiles. Most telling of all many of these folks are leaving with zero notice. There’s lots of great people still left and I fear they will go down with the ship. Do yourself a favor and steer clear so you don’t end up scrambling for a life boat later.
