Pros
After 30+ years in a completely different field I took a job as a Turnip Truck cashier. Within a few months I had moved into the position of Lead Cashier supervising the front end. I was involved in initial and ongoing training for cashiers as well as being liaison between management and my cashiers. From the very beginning of my time at Turnip Truck I was incredibly impressed with the commitment to the customer experience and overall customer service. Even though the bottom line profit margins in the grocery business are notoriously thin, in my opinion the ownership and leadership of the Turnip Truck have consistently proven their commitment to care for the needs of their employees.
Cons
The only real "cons" I saw had more to do with the normal negatives associated with retail businesses. Sometimes the scheduling doesn't equal (or may exceed) the need at a given time. All you can work from in scheduling employees ... especially cashiers ... is the historical data and the local area calendar of events. Even with this information, sometimes it doesn't work.
