Pros

The most positive aspects of working here are the immediate colleagues, who generally foster a team mentality and create a good working environment. The company maintains financial stability that provides decent job security (as long as you follow policy), and there are decent incentives and benefits packages that help offset other shortcomings.

Cons

The experience here declined significantly the last few years. Compensation remains at the low end of fair market value, with management recycling the same excuses about "cost cutting" and "we did our best with what they gave us". Despite my significant skill growth and contributions, career advancement was stagnate. I've watched colleagues remain in the same position for decades, still doing the same work. The constant process changes from upper management make it impossible to develop any rhythm or expertise, suffocating any joy that once existed in my career. The company clearly values physical presence over actual performance, sending an awful message about what truly matters. Their return-to-office policy is nothing more than a "soft-layoff" strategy designed to reduce headcount without the bad press of actual layoffs. I'd have more respect for honesty. Rather the messaging is about "face-to-face interaction" benefits or the condescending phrase "we understand if you have to make tough decisions". Which is just code for "if you don't like it, you know where the door is." The reality is that return to office is the exact same virtual meetings in a different location, just with traffic stress and a gas bill. If you're desperate for a job and don't value career growth...US Bank is a perfect fit for you.

Pros

The pay is market average, and the benefits are quite good. I love my peers. The vast majority of them are kind and talented people. I truly enjoyed my first several years with the company. Well past the honeymoon period for a new employer. And at the time, I recommended this place to anyone I knew looking for a job.

Cons

Management is a mess from the bottom up. The culture of the company has drastically changed over the last several years because of frequent retirements, layoffs, and reorganizations. Employees I know from across describe the same experience: the company has gone from outstanding culture to one that feels openly hostile to its employees. Management decisions are built like cudgels and enforced through all stick and no carrot.
