Pros
Dedicated colleagues from support staff to clinicians. The people here make the workplace. The care provided to the general public is excellent. Benefits overall are decent.
Cons
Leadership is Extremely disconnected from employees. This is the classic ivory tower environment. UCI Health loves to ask for more production with little to nothing in return. This is a non-profit but make no mistake, profit is the number one priority over everything. UCI Health prioritizes its turf war with other neighboring hospital systems like Hoag over its employees and puts up multimillion dollar buildings all over Irvine. The system is extremely rigid with many rules, some okay and reasonable and others are absurd. The bureaucracy is horrible. The people in the IT department work hard and are dedicated, but the IT equipment rarely works well. The message portals to provide patients better access to healthcare providers is good in theory but is an absolute nightmare to deal with as an employee. Unfortunately, the medical industry is extremely broken and UCI Health certainly has no solutions to solve these issues. People are often promoted into leadership positions because they are a physician but with no real leadership or management training or natural skill sets. A great doctor (technician) does not necessarily make a great manager or leader. Like most academia it is physician lead and physician prioritized.
