Pros

I've heard now and again that after a few years of package handling, you have a pretty good chance of advancing to package car driver or management, etc. The job provides an awesome workout. Guaranteed to gain muscle mass and burn calories almost instantly. Almost like a substitute for cardio, and weightlifting. Once you learn the basics of your job, you can turn off your brain and just do repetitive work for the whole shift. Setting up your 401k is simple. obtaining seniority will open up advancement. Not sure how benefits work.

Cons

A seemingly NEVER ENDING flow of heavy, and awkward packages coming down a conveyor belt for 3.5 hours straight.(a very short 10 min. break.) The belt has lots of flaws, so packages are CONSTANTLY jamming, falling off onto your feet and ankles. Not that I'm bothered by this, but you will leave with a new bruise every day GUARANTEED! Some workers get away with doing half the labor you do, making you want to stoop to their productivity level, but doing this only prolongs the end of your shift. Honestly, you receive little to no training your first couple weeks. You are literally tossed to the wolves. There are some employees that have been there for decades and will verbally blast you if do the slightest thing wrong (due to lack of training). some will help you but most will scream inaudible words at you like animals as if they were trying to express their seniority. 75% of management at this location expects you to have the knowledge of someone who's been there for some years already which is absurd to expect of a new hire. By far the biggest con is $11.00 an hour. God only knows how they get away with that garbage wage for what seems like legalized slave labor. Everyone will tell you they make up for it with the benefits they offer. Ill probably be using them when I get older.

Pros

The pay is excellent .health care is 100 % paid with 100 %coverage...with exception to eye and dental which is about 70%..coverage...pension is outstanding..full package with wages and benefits is worth 130,000 yearly..without a college education I am grateful for the standard of living UPS HAS AFFORDED ME AND MY FAMILY!...and with 27 years of service I now get 6 weeks vacation with 8 sick days..and 9 paid holidays...we work hard like many people in the work force but we are well compensated!.

Cons

The only con is while your children are young you give up a lot of family time..I never got to watch my kids play sports and missed a lot of their growing years...the job can be hard on your home life but if you can make it through those years you and your family will enjoy the financial freedom that UPS provides...and now I look forward to a prosperous retirement!...so hang in there all you young drivers...
