The management was nice.... But they took all my money.

This is a company that poses itself as a reputable health insurance organization. I coordinated with them to try to become a salesperson. Big mistake. They were not up-front about a lot of expenses and the time commitment, and I ended up losing $350, and finally left when I realized they were just going to keep asking for more money. Please continue reading for details. First, they lied about how long it would take to get a license. They told me most people typically take 3 days to finish the course. That’s a flat-out lie. The course they want you to take is a 60-hour course. It’s not physically possible to finish that in 3 days. That should have been the first red flag. I ignored it. On my first day is when I finally discovered these people were scammers. The very first thing they made me do when I arrived was pay a $95 subscription fee for the software they use. That’s not fair. Nobody told me I’d have to pay that kind of price to use their special software ahead of time, especially considering I had already paid $90 for the background check, $40 for the fingerprints, $24 for the course, and $44 for the test. They just weren’t honest and up-front about the cost of this whole process BEFORE I started. THEN I got a schedule from them. They thought I was going to work 12 hours Monday through Friday and then come in on Saturdays too. They said I’d be working “long hours”, and “on Saturdays too”, but they did NOT say I’d be coming in 12 hours a day, EVERY DAY. This is especially funny considering I was an independent contractor. How are you not going to pay my salary or benefits, but dictate what I do with my time? THEN they told me (on my first day) that I couldn’t park in the parking lot at the building; that I had to park somewhere in another lot and SHUTTLE OVER. That was NOT explained to me before I went through the whole process of getting a state license to work for them. Being the young female that I am, parking in a remote parking garage somewhere else, and shuttling over when it’s dark out is NOT an option. When I went home, I Googled the parking lot they advised me to park in, only to discover that it was $7 A DAY. Why did no one tell me that BEFOREHAND? To make matters worse, I found out about ANOTHER expense from another employee, not even the management was going to tell me about: the desk space!! I was going to have to RENT DESK SPACE. I finished my first day at work, and the management still never told me that. When were they going to tell me that? A month in? Oh, and on my first day, I also discovered that I would need to invest in a pair of headphones at the minimum cost of $150. I was told that I would need a headset ahead of time, but they did NOT discuss the price range. I was expecting to spend $20 on it. They were gradually adding in more and more expenses to reel people in. They want you to think, “well, I’ve already spent this much money, I should just spend x amount more to keep this job”. Lastly, they demonstrated cult-like behavior. It’s a total sham. Wasted my time. :( I worked at the Tampa location.

As always, we appreciate all comments and suggestions. We understand that you feel some level of concern regarding your experience … and we’d like the opportunity to respond. You opened your comments with a statement that “This is a company that poses itself as a reputable health insurance organization”. I assure you; we are not “posing”. USHEALTH Advisors, LLC is a wholly owned subsidiary of USHEALTH Group, Inc. which is an insurance holding company, based in Fort Worth, Texas. The company has successfully operated within the highly regulated health insurance industry for more than 40 years. While I was not present during your local interview with the office in Tampa, Florida … I will attempt to address your concerns to the best of my ability. First, your concern regarding the hours required for licensure course completion. The licensure course is a function of state licensure requirements and our company does not have any input over the number of hours required. With that said, local management’s assertion that people typically finish in 3 days is not only possible … but plausible, when considering the need for licensure in order to be able to work. It is not unusual to see new candidates with a strong sense of urgency, complete the required coursework within a 72-hour time frame. Before addressing your other concerns, I feel it is necessary to remind you … as well as anyone who reads this response, that the position you interviewed for and which you accepted … is a 1099 Independent Contractor position. In other words, it is a business opportunity. It is not unusual for a business opportunity to require at least some level of investment in terms of time, effort or, money. The cash outlays you referred to in your comments should, therefore, be considered in the context of a 1099 Independent Contractor business opportunity. In this context, the investment amounts laid out in your example appear to be appropriate … and far less than a typical business start-up might require. Again, I was not present during any of your conversations and therefore, I don’t know when such information was presented. That said, I will tell you that fees for required background checks are typically discussed prior to contracting. Regarding fingerprints, course work and testing for licensure … such requirements are in fact, discussed up front, during the initial orientation interview, and well before contracting. USHEALTH Advisors does not collect fees for these requirements, as they are a function of state regulations and must be addressed between the proposed licensee and state regulators. The remainder of your comments appear to circle back to issues regarding investment in your business, as an Independent Contractor. Again, I’ll simply state that the investment of your time, effort and money into your business is entirely at your discretion. We can point you to the pathway for success … however the final decision … and the resulting level of success achieved, is ultimately up to you. Again, thank you for your comments. As a former agent who started at US Health in 2014 and then advanced high enough to open a top 10 office with over 20 agents I feel I have a lot of valuable information to share with anyone considering a career here. First of all, before I explain why I am never going back, let me say that for new agents thinking about joining the industry, or seasoned agents WILLING TO LEARN, this is probably the best insurance opportunity in America. NO insurance company I have ever worked for prior or since pays as much in commission as USHA and NO insurance company has a product that is as innovative. Also, I'm not going to rehash what everyone else has already said, it is not a 9-5 job and if you are willing to put in the work it WILL pay off. All that being said, your success depends a LOT on your up-line. I am the 5th or 6th manager that has left this particular division. At some point, you would think the company would listen to the complaints from the other agents in this division. Sadly that has not been the case. I have had numerous former agents calling me crying about what the office has become, but unfortunately, they are fairly stuck. My advice for anyone considering a career is to ask for a report from the office, and look for yourself at how many people they have and how well they produce. The best managers have teams with consistent sales. Choose one of those, otherwise you WILL regret your time here. Choose the right office and this job WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE.

Unless you are a great self-starter and at the top 1% of the game, you will fail unless you choose the right team.
