I would like to start out by stating the fact that I am a former employee who left due to my choice. I am not a disgruntled former employee who was terminated by UMA. The below is the reality of issues you will deal with while there.
The school lures you in under the guise of changing lives of people around the country. During the interview process they do tell you the culture is upbeat and fun, and they specifically look for people who are comfortable with this level of energy. However, what they don't tell you is it is not just the loud music on the floor and high energy of employees you will be handling. It is people cussing loudly profane things while talking to potential students. It is other teams intentionally making excessive and rude noise while near you, to prevent you from enrolling a student. Common topics on the admissions floor are drugs, drinking, baby daddies in prison, and pro-black anti-white statements that are quite shocking. However, with the very clear hostile work environment, nothing is done.
Other than the unprofessional and unacceptable behavior on the floor, is the horribly wrong lead practices. Leads are called many many many times a day. The same peoples information are printed on sheets repeatedly. These sheets are then handed out to the hundreds of admissions reps on the floor. People are sometimes often called 10-20 times a day.
Outside of the harassing call volume, potential students "not interested" statements are not listened to. Reps are encouraged to push potential students by focusing on how horrible the potential student's life is, until they hang up or enroll. If they hang up, they get put back on the lead list. People requesting to be put on the Do Not Call List, are only occasionally done so. Many reps are advised by their Directors of Admissions to not worry about it.
Moreover, the school is charging student obscene amounts of money for their courses. Amounts much more than schools of better reputation.
You will receive a week of training that will focus on a very small small small bit of information on HR policies and compliance (this accounts for about one day with just a few minutes on each topic). Then you will spend 4 days of training on the 17 page script and learning the methods to doing a reverse sell on potential students to get them to sell their selves on the school, by focusing on how bad their lives are. Your job is to "drive home their pain" as it is often put at UMA.
What they won't provide any (or little) training on is the computer systems, FERPA, what classes and courses are included in each major, in depth information on each major (they will give you about 3 sentences on each major), and many more things they do not train you on. In the end, they don't care if you know any of these things; they just want to make sure you are prepared to forcefully manipulate whomever is on the phone.
This is just the concise version of the plethora of issues at this school. If you like being able to go to sleep at night with a clear conscience, don't work here.
