Pros

They do their best to incorporate fun They typically hire people that have a good personality There’s an opportunity to receive a raise almost every 90 days

Cons

Unrealistic expectations No matter how much effort you put in you still may fail Many of the students do not have time for school but sign up anyway for financial aid checks and refunds You spend your day begging people to participate in their online class Your job is completely dependent on if the students answer the phone and participate in class

Dear Former Employee, Thank you for your work in support of our value to Champion Successful Student Outcomes. We appreciate the work you did for our students as a Learner Services Advisor. Our institutional culture is guided by our core values, which also include a Commitment to Employee Success and Working as One. We work hard to live up to these values every day. With that said, we were disappointed to read that your experience at UMA was dissatisfying. We understand that the role of a Learner Services Advisor can sometimes be challenging. Most rewarding work is. But through our efforts in reaching out to and helping our students overcome obstacles to complete their programs we are able to support more than 15,000 current students as well as 40,000 alumni. And we are all proud when we celebrate our students’ success like we did on April 21 at our largest Commencement ceremony ever at which UMA Learner Services Advisor Gerardo Ponce spoke before the almost 1,000 graduates in attendance at the USF Sun Dome, with even more of our total 7,600 graduates livestreaming the event across the nation. We are an institution that is committed to continuous improvement and recognize that feedback from our students, employees, and former employees is critical for our ongoing development. Thank you for your comments and best wishes in your future endeavors.

Pros

Overtime available, when need it

Cons

The work environment was highly scripted, making it difficult to build genuine rapport with prospective students. Employees were expected to follow approved scripts very closely, and even small deviations could be treated as compliance issues. At the same time, compliance expectations were not always clearly communicated, which created unnecessary stress. Management felt overly focused on micromanagement, contributing to a high-pressure work environment. During my time there, I also heard a prospective student comment on what they perceived as a lack of diversity within the organization, which stood out to me. Overall, I found the culture stressful and inflexible. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this employer to those looking for a supportive workplace with clear expectations and the flexibility to communicate authentically.
