Pros

UMA is not only concerned about the success of its students, but also about the well-being of their employees. There are numerous health and wellness programs in place, free of charge. They also hold a bi-monthly fruit and vegetable market, to give employees healthy options, right from the convenience of their workplace, at no cost to them. I take pride in representing a company that cares about the students, as well as the employees. I worked at another online university prior to this, and was refreshed to see how UMA does business. They are truly invested in their students’ success and their employees happiness, not at all with padding their pockets, as was my experience with my previous online university.

Cons

There are some slight disconnects between departments, but communication is constantly improving. There are lots of changes/updates and revisions to current processes, but I believe these changes are all for the long-term best interest of the company. As they say, “change is the only constant in life”, and I believe we are evolving for the better.

Pros

Overtime available, when need it

Cons

The work environment was highly scripted, making it difficult to build genuine rapport with prospective students. Employees were expected to follow approved scripts very closely, and even small deviations could be treated as compliance issues. At the same time, compliance expectations were not always clearly communicated, which created unnecessary stress. Management felt overly focused on micromanagement, contributing to a high-pressure work environment. During my time there, I also heard a prospective student comment on what they perceived as a lack of diversity within the organization, which stood out to me. Overall, I found the culture stressful and inflexible. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this employer to those looking for a supportive workplace with clear expectations and the flexibility to communicate authentically.
