Pros

- students here are geared and marketed towards the same way everest marketed to their students. By appealing to low income, down on their luck (so to speak), people. More specifically, they cater to the type of person who has been brought down their whole life, and thinks they will not be anything special. I say this as a positive because I genuinely believe that these students need some positive reinforcement. Good pay.

Cons

Management- they treat you like a number. They are quick to bribe people with food and energy drinks to crack the whip on us even harder. Education- the education they receive is one of the worst I have ever seen. They overcharge for their education and deliver a 4th rate product. Online students at the end of the rode can't even access their email, much less remember -anything- about what they learned. To be perfectly honest this place is nothing more than a glorified job placement agency that offers poor education. The company supposedly relies on keeping it's accreditation through job placement. They care about getting financial aid money, not about delivering a quality education. I even asked a program chair why we have these programs that require Microsoft Office experience (excel, word PowerPoint, etc), and he couldn't give me a straight answer. In case you can't tell I care about the actual education of the student, and the progress they make in being able to actually comprehend what is being taught to them. The objective is grad out as many as possible and place a minimum of 70% of the student body at jobs. They just have to last 15 days, and it counts towards their accreditation. Yes they have an alumni team of about 4-5 people to cover hundred possibly even thousands. The only reason I haven't quit yet is because I cant. I tried to leave and then life kept me here. If you can get a job elsewhere, do it.

Actually, we have more than 200 staff members within our career services department all dedicated to the mission of helping our graduates find meaningful employment. In 2014, when we surveyed 1400 employers, 90% said they would hire another UMA graduate. Additionally, when asked if they would refer a friend to UMA, 96% of our students surveyed said, “yes”. I’m so sorry to hear how dissatisfied you are with your career choice at the Academy. I sincerely hope you schedule some time with a member of HR to share your specific concerns so that we can work with you to address each one. But that is completely up to you, should you want to take the initiative to improve your outlook on work and make a positive contribution to the lives of others. Certainly, I can attest that your co-workers do not share your feelings about how the school is run nor how our students perform. Life’s too short to spend another day unhappy at work. Best wishes to you on your future endeavors, wherever they may lead you.

Pros

Overtime available, when need it

Cons

The work environment was highly scripted, making it difficult to build genuine rapport with prospective students. Employees were expected to follow approved scripts very closely, and even small deviations could be treated as compliance issues. At the same time, compliance expectations were not always clearly communicated, which created unnecessary stress. Management felt overly focused on micromanagement, contributing to a high-pressure work environment. During my time there, I also heard a prospective student comment on what they perceived as a lack of diversity within the organization, which stood out to me. Overall, I found the culture stressful and inflexible. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this employer to those looking for a supportive workplace with clear expectations and the flexibility to communicate authentically.
