The culture within the IT team initially feels welcoming and comfortable. But, scratch beneath the surface too hard - or just hold your breath and wait for about 3 months - and a different picture emerges. It can be a very bumpy ride! 1. There is a distinct lack of trust between and among the parts of the team, as well as an "us vs them" mentality between the BA team and the developers. 2. The internal communication is severely lacking. Most times it felt like being in a bubble, or being on the outside looking in. A good BA can't operate in that environment and be effective. 3. In addition, the main way of dealing with the underlying anxiety that this naturally produces is to pretend that everything is fine instead of dealing with it head on. Very much a "let's not rock the boat" too much. A lot of soft-peddling and back-pedaling. 4. Please note that bullying is tolerated here, and management tends to look the other way. If you have triggers due to past personal history - like I did - this is not the place for you. Run away! 5. There is little genuine empathy for other people's situations. 6. Watch out for the power struggles!
