Pros

Decent full time benefits. The first full year you get 20 paid time off days. Insurance is okay. Some great coworkers. Not necessarily hard work.

Cons

My biggest issue with this place was the fact that you were forced to work over your scheduled time. The only shift where you ever were able to leave on time was the opening shift of 7-4. If you had a 12-9 or a 2-11 it was guaranteed that you wouldn’t be leaving until at least 9:30, or 11:30, respectively. They also would schedule you “clopens” which would be when you were scheduled till 11pm, and the next day your shift started at 7am. In most cases, they would just tell you to come in an hour or two later, which still isn’t enough time to get enough sleep. They also will force you to work over 40 hours a week if overtime is approved. The starting pay used to always be a dollar above minimum wage, but now it’s minimum wage and raises are performance based and happen every 3 months or so. Even then, it’s only 50 cents an hour until you reach a new leadership level, but then you have to take a 50 question test, and have an interview and it’s a $1.50 an hour more. And if you aren’t a favorite, forget ever moving up. Coming in and doing your job isn’t good enough. You have to go out and have drinks with the managers and supervisors to get anywhere in this company. Requesting time off can be a real hassle, and you have to put it in at least 2 weeks in advance, and even then it might get “lost” or it won’t get approved because too many others requested it off. Also they are somewhat lenient with your availability, but you still need to be able to close 2 nights a week, and open availability on the weekends. The work can be stressful if the floor is understaffed, as you are expected to do the job of about 3 people. When it’s like this, the supervisors and managers walk around doing no work and micromanaging everyone and it makes it so much worse. Management really does expect a lot from you, even though they are hardly ever seen on the floor. They are mostly sitting downstairs in an office all day eating and drinking coffee. Because of all of this, the turnover rate is so high. I only worked there for a little over a year and the only people who stayed were the employees that had gotten promoted to high positions. Most regular associates quit within 6 months.

Pros

You learn a lot of the business; scheduling and payroll, labor management, how to create a daily workflow to accomplish business objectives. You're provided with detailed insights into a store's operations- it's P&L statement, total inventory and how convert key data into actionable plans. Simply put, you are challenged and will learn a lot.

Cons

Company and store experience varies greatly by store location. Unfortunately, management favoritism results in certain individuals getting better treatment and greater access to professional opportunities. Additionally, Company HR is very tepid when addressing store issues pertaining to behaviors exhibited by store management towards associates. Scheduling can be very inflexible and unaccommodating.
