Pros
-30% discount on items that are not on final sale or promotion. - Lots of friendly people - Company has many interesting concepts (design your own shirt) - Competitive base pay - Evaluations are every 3 months so there is a chance to get a raise and promotion - Chance to learn plenty of useful skills - Great place to start if this is your first job - Most supervisors are awesome people. I can't say I like every supervisor but most of them are great. They will listen to you and hear you out (The awesome ones at least).
Cons
This review is for the 5th Ave location, I personally do not know how things are run in the other stores. Most of the cons stated by previous reviews are true, however this fault does not lie in the company. The fault lies in human nature. Before you look too deeply into the Cons, please consider the following: 1) People play favorites by nature. So nepotism will always exist no matter what company you work for, this company is no exception. 2) Double standards will always exist due to human nature. 3) People are selfish by nature. 4) People are two faced by nature. 5) People do not like taking responsibility or being held accountable if it's to their disadvantage. 6) People are prideful and don't like to admit to being wrong but will rush to steal the credit from others. 7) No one is perfect 8) If people think they can get away with it they will do it. 9) People are more emotional than logical. 10) People gossip. Cons: - Management does play favorites, but once again they're human. You do reap benefits based on how much they like you or value you. The amount of hours they give you is based off of that. The likely hood of you getting the promotion is also based off of that. Do not bite the hand that feeds you. -Management isn't always around. There are people that work extremely hard, do a great job and get over looked. But once again, this isn't the only place this type of thing happens. Management doesn't see everything but if you want to show how well you work, then make sure to really show it. Report back constantly when you finish a task and ask for another. If you don't someone else can easily take the credit. - People are quick to throw you under the bus. Some people here are scumbags. They use dirty tactics and etc. They will do no work, chat, leaving the people who go on over looked to clean up their messes and cover for them while taking the credit that they deserve. This takes place everywhere, instead always, own up to your own mistakes and learn from them instead of blaming others. It makes you seem reliable as well as responsible. - Evaluations are a lot like "whose line is it anyway" the points don't really matter in the end. The evaluation sheet serves more as a guide line for your growth. The issue is most of the things you will be evaluated on will be a "group" thing. In other words if no one in the group got it, you can't get it. Despite the fact it's an individual evaluation. - Hypocrisy is rampant. There's a lot of "do as I say and not as I do." here. You will see manager and supervisor's breaking rules and then yelling at associates for breaking the same rule. For example you will see supervisor or manager chatting and then call out an associate for chatting. You will see a manager or supervisor on facebook on their phone and then call out an associate for using their phone. - Everything is results based. The ends justify the means. This happens everywhere. As long as no one knows the means then it's all good. This is why all that scumbag stuff goes unchecked. As long as something gets done, in the amount of time they give you or faster they don't really care how it's done. - Departments antagonize each other. Due to the above con, people are constantly setting each other to fail as long as it gets their job done. This in the long run generates more problems than it solves. - Rarely do people take responsibility for their mistakes. If someone screws up, they will just pretend like someone else created this problem. As a result of this issue gets pushed around and just grows larger and larger. Until someone actually takes action to fix the problem themselves. - Most of the people here don't care. Some people are just here for the paycheck as a result they don't care for standards or what happens to anyone else as a result of their actions. - Poor communication. It seems like the departments are not on the same page. Even within departments it seems like managers and supervisors are not on the same page. One will tell you to do this and another will tell you to disregard the previous task only for the first one to yell at you for not getting the task done.
