Pros

30% Employee Discount Cashiering was fun while it lasted Interacting with (most) customers was enjoyable (Some) Nice co-workers Starting pay is decent enough for a retail associate Learnt quite a few lessons about human dynamics in the workplace which could be useful. Very, very flexible hours, which is a huge advantage for someone like me with tons of other commitments.

Cons

Unpredictable Limited Offers just negate my 30% discount advantage most of the time Co-workers/Team Leaders with grand delusions and a superiority complex; they love imposing their 'authority' on you, ask you stupid and unnecessary questions about completion of basic tasks, and expect you to assume a subservient and obliging demeanor. I assume this is their key source of entertainment so I'll let it pass. A rigid and stifling environment. Everyone has different ideas on the completion of a task so if you do it to someone's standard but not to another person's, u still doin' it wrong. Really depends on your luck. Repetitive and mind-numbing work, which is typical of the retail industry I guess.

Pros

You learn a lot of the business; scheduling and payroll, labor management, how to create a daily workflow to accomplish business objectives. You're provided with detailed insights into a store's operations- it's P&L statement, total inventory and how convert key data into actionable plans. Simply put, you are challenged and will learn a lot.

Cons

Company and store experience varies greatly by store location. Unfortunately, management favoritism results in certain individuals getting better treatment and greater access to professional opportunities. Additionally, Company HR is very tepid when addressing store issues pertaining to behaviors exhibited by store management towards associates. Scheduling can be very inflexible and unaccommodating.
