Pros

The people I met and worked with at Uptake were incredibly smart, kind, and impressive. I learned a tremendous amount.

Cons

Working at Uptake was an amazing opportunity and experience for me professionally and personally. However, Uptake is no longer the company I once worked at- it has been miserably mismanaged and the top quality people who made the place so great have almost all exited. Engineering has been particularly neglected and this means they simply do not have the talent to build the products they have promised. I think people know this deep down but a type of magical thinking has taken hold. People are desperate to believe that deadlines will be met and products will be delivered when there is no clear way this is possible. Instead of making swift, systematic changes to solve problems, people are pretending problems do not exist. I feel very sorry for people who have joined in the past six months, thinking they were getting the old Uptake, but are now stuck with a massively dysfunctional organization. One of the biggest liabilities is the CEO. Keywell comes across as incredibly narcissistic and out of touch with the functioning of the company and the needs of either customers or staff. Everyone at the company has at least one story of him blowing up, doing something laughably out of touch, or refusing to be candid about company business. Once, we got frequent updates about burn rate, runway, and other financial details - not since mid 2018 has any of this been routinely revealed to staff.
