Pros
Amazing benefits. Largely amazing co-workers. Great potential for growth. Direct patient care that cares.
Cons
Absolutely horrific management that refuses to stand up for employees on even the most basic level. A patient lodges a complaint that half the unit was present for and testified was false? Doesn't matter--you "violated STAR Service guidelines" and get written discipline that forbids you from a wide bevy of benefits for a year. It doesn't even matter if you point blank ask your boss and HR what specific action you took or what specific policy you 'violated', as even when they directly admit they have no answer, it doesn't get rid of the black mark. Diversity is a joke, and the institution is deeply racist and queerphobic at managerial levels. I seriously cannot overstate how awful every daily interaction with management is. I've roomed so many ex-VCU Health staff who've told me how soul-crushing it is to work here and how their lives got better after they left. Also, pay is mediocre.
