Pros
Amazing co-workers and good benefits. The tuition assistance program was the best benefit for me. I left and took a job making twice the pay I would have if I remained at Vanderbilt.
Cons
You have to pay to park at work. There's no excuse for that. If you park in the wrong place you are fined $100. If you don't pay, your car is booted. Vanderbilt was the lowest paying hospital in Nashville and benefits were being cut rapidly before I left, including the tuition benefit. Unit managers were quitting in droves around 2011-2013 and high profile physicians were being unceremoniously shown the door. The bottom line is that this is an extremely wealthy university/medical center that has allowed an enormous disconnect to develop between the workers and those in power.
