Pros

Most non-management employees are good, honest people desperate to seek better opportunities. Or they are overseas and don't realize their skills can be utilized for so much more at other companies. Project Managers are generally great people (when they're not incompetent/unqualified outsourced individuals). One director in particular is a fantastic person and the lifeblood of the company. Development is usually overworked and underappreciated, but they are trying to constantly make magic out of the insanity that corporate and sales expects from them.

Cons

Company is owned and operated by incompetent bullies that managed to lose access to decades of knowledge transfer by losing Sharepoint Access. They provide no training and sell their employees as experts who have zero training and are freshly hired. They are desperate to sell this company and wash their hands of the mess they've made. No respect for work-life balance, nor any clear understanding of their expectations on their workers. They don't stand up for their own, letting clients berate and curse out their workers without any recourse. No opportunity for growth and they skill you in their outdated proprietary software that is dependent outdate AS400 hardware (1988). To make matters worse they were entirely reliant on one DBA and lead Developer because he was a master RPG coder. Well their entire server is dependent on a dead skill that nobody learns anymore. Compensation is a joke, we are talking 10s of thousands of dollars below the minimum threshold of industry standards. They prey on the desperate, fire and outsource most of their competent workers, and then shift all of the responsibility onto those that remain. Stay away from this company. Being skilled in an archaic technology that is proprietary in nature is practically useless.

Cons

My experience at VertexOne started positively, but over time several operational and leadership challenges became clear. The department frequently operated without clearly defined workflows or standardized procedures. There appeared to be limited focus on implementing consistent process improvements or establishing operational structure, which created confusion and inefficiencies for the team. Overall, the department seemed to lack the operational alignment and governance typically needed for teams to work efficiently at scale, and they were not receptive to process improvement ideas. Communication and direction from leadership could be incredibly inconsistent. At times priorities or guidance changed without clear explanation, which made it difficult for employees to execute work confidently and maintain accountability. Stronger leadership experience in building structured, process-driven teams would significantly benefit the department. The tone and style of communication from leadership occasionally felt less professional than expected in a corporate environment. A stronger emphasis on professionalism and clear communication standards would improve the overall work environment. The volume of meetings was extremely high, often exceeding 20 per week. Many of these could likely have been replaced with written updates, allowing employees more time for focused work. Despite the heavy meeting load, after-hours communication about urgent items was still common.
